So Yeah,

It's easy to decide, but for some it's hard to change the "routine".
You just need to know more and to re-discover the word, with all his new colors and guilt free.
Now you can finally say that you love animals. :-)

Facts Part II (Fish)

80% of the world’s fish stocks are either fully or over exploited. In 2006 around 82 million tonnes of fish were caught from the oceans, with a further 10 million tonnes caught from inland waters. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) projects an increase in fish consumption of 40 million tonnes by 2030. A four year study published in the journal

In addition to dwindling fish stocks, the biodiversity of the oceans are being lost too. Coral reefs, “the rainforests of the sea”, are dying at an unprecedented rate, averaging a loss of 600 square miles per year, (or 1% of the total), since the late1960s. Tropical and subtropical coastal mangrove systems, vital for healthy coral reefs, are being felled and converted to ponds for prawns and shrimps destined for the Western market. 20% of the world’s mangrove systems have been lost since 1980.

Second Life

Because Everything can live for ever, or longer, change shape and function. Challenging ourselves is a good way to have a more original house/office to live and help the environment at the same time. I rather prefer this lamp to all that Made In Crap all the same plastic products. Well Done White Elephant!

Facts Part I (Mutilation)

Calves can be subjected to a range of painful mutilations. Male calves have traditionally been castrated. In the uk, three methods are used; a rubber ring or other device is used to restrict the flow of blood to the scrotum within the first week of life; so-called "bloodless castration" by physically crushing the spermatic cords and surgical castration, both usually carried out within 2 months of birth. All three methods cause acute pain. Under these conditions, there is no legal requirement for an anaesthetic to be used or a vet to be present.

Calves are often disbudded to prevent their horns growing, or are dehorned in later life. Both procedures are painful and stressful. Disbudding involves applying a heated iron to the horn buds of young calves up to about 2 months old. If carried out within the first week, the law does not require an anaesthetic to be used. Dehorning involves cutting off the older animal's horns using a saw, horn shears or cutting wire, and cauterising the exposed blood vessels. Mercifully, an anaesthetic is required by law.

Some female calves are born with one or more extra (supernumerary) teats, which are often removed using surgical scissors.

The Power Of Silence

Sometimes we get lost in a life full of things to make and do.

But it is that all so important to us?

Silence is not specific to any particular tradition or cultural context; it is practiced throughout the world.

Silence is the practice of intentionally not speaking in order to develop a sense of calm and a keener observation of the outside world.

Observing silence can feel awkward at first, especially when you are with a group of people, and during meals. In time, silence can become a comforting practice that helps cultivate calmness and tranquility. Here are some ways to incorporate an appreciation of silence into your daily life:

• Designate a certain hour or half-hour of the day as a silent time, perhaps in the early morning.

• Eat a meal in silence. Silent eating helps you pay closer attention to your food and the changes in your appetite; you may find yourself eating less than usual.

• Use silence to help you become more attuned to your environment. Turn off the TV, computer, radio, or other noise-producing devices and listening closely to the ambient sounds that remain. Try to find a sound you’ve never noticed before.

• When conversing with others, listen to what they are saying. Often, instead of listening, we are thinking of what next to say.

Silence is practiced at times during all Center retreats and workshops, as it helps to cultivate mindfulness. It is a particularly powerful practice for people with busy, fragmented lives. Some retreats include silence until 12:00 noon each day and again in the evenings. Others include a 24-hour period of silence that is practiced during sitting and walking meditation as well as meals and personal time.

Periods of extended silence are usually more fruitful when connections between participants are already established, and when people feel well-prepared for the silence. While there may be some expressions of anxiety at the beginning of a full day of silence, by the end most people usually feel very comfortable with it, and often express a desire for more and lengthier periods of quiet. The resistance is often about desiring more time to meet and talk with others, but during silence participants learn that there is another valuable way to connect. In the initial sessions after a silent period, it is important to take care to reintroduce speaking in a way that doesn’t feel too abrupt, jarring or intrusive.

New Tools and Behaviors

IDEO’s water team created three scenes envisioning a positive future with water.
Each scene explores one of three opportunity areas the team identified to successfully manage this natural resource: 1) Decisions we'll make, 2) Systems that will support our lifestyle, and 3) Tools we'll use in our daily lives.
The final scene explores technologies we may encounter in our morning routine, how they may change our habits, and what new behaviors may emerge.

No More Meat

Imagine yourself 50 years after the abolition of meat ...

We live in a world where the interests of animals are taken seriously.

Imagine you were born in an era when the history of animals is

considered to be the greatest tragedy of all time.

Imagine that monuments have been erected in memory of the

thousands of billions of animals abused and killed unnecessarily.

Consider that in this vegetarian era no-one captures sentient

beings to eat their bodies or raises them for fattening and killing.

Such practices now horrify us. The memory of earlier meals

consisting of corpses seems abhorrent and repugnant.

Back to the present, is it so difficult

to imagine that our generation could abolish meat?

World Day For The Abolition Of Meat

31th January 2010, be a part of it
